Land Acquisition - our commitment to the Price Road location

Since 1923, Burroughs has strategically purchased property — as it has become available — to add to the campus. Purchases in the 1950s, 1960s, 1980s and 1990s more than doubled the campus, allowing us to build new buildings and facilities, playing fields and courts for both boys’ and girls’ sports, accommodate the increasing number of student drivers and visitors to campus, gain access to Clayton Road for a new entrance and drop-off, and still maintain a campus which has a small, personal feel about it and sustains our commitment to natural green spaces .

Once-per-generation properties on the market Over the past three years, the school has purchased three neighboring properties on the campus’s southern border. Residential properties such as these come on the market infrequently, and the Board feels that in order to meet our short- and long-term needs for parking and playing fields as well as provide flexibility to future generations, we must purchase them as they become available. The Board is committed to keeping the school at the original Price Road location, not moving to a larger campus as some other St. Louis institutions have done. The total cost of land purchased is $7.7 million.
