~ Recent Events ~
Thanks to all who came back for Alumni Weekend 2014: October 16-18. It was great to see hundreds of alums on campus at the following events:
~ Wine & Cheese / Art Opening on Thursday with exhibits by Susan Hockaday Jones '56 in the Bonsack Gallery and Robert Walker (fine arts, retired) in the Kuehner Gallery; the evening also featured a poetry reading by Bob Henningsen in the faculty lounge.
~ Cocktail Party on Friday night had a great crowd of alumni & firends in the Commons.
~ Picnic on Saturday brought alumni & their families back to campus, with live entertainment by Larry McMahon '69 and his band The Panics. Faculty member Dr. Mark Smith (history) started the day with a lecture in the faulty lounge titled Music of the 1960s and 1970s: Sex, Drugs and Rock and Roll.
Ellen Moceri TEDx Presentation - Former JBS history teacher and co-founder of Aim High St. Louis, Ellen Moceri gave her TEDx presentation, "Private Schools with a Public Purpose," on Thursday, October 2 in Haertter Hall. The one-hour program was followed by a brief reception. More than 250 alumni and friends attended.
JBS & MICDS Fun Run - About 300 runners, walkers, strollers and bicycle riders joined in the fun on Saturday, September 27 for the 2.5 miles trek from JBS to MICDS. Everyone had a great time visiting before the walk/run. See the photos here.
Tony Reed '73 was the inaugural speaker in our Alumni Speaker Series. Tony is a global business executive and seven-continent marathoner, and he spoke to the students at morning assembly on September 19.
On Tuesday, September 9, alums from the 90s and 00s gathered on campus for a network happy hour. Featured speakers included Adam Birenbaum '96, who is CEO of Buckingham Asset Management, Amy George Rush '92, who is author of "Under One Flag," and Brian Swift '95, who owns Swift Incentives. On Saturday, August 16, Andy Abbott greeted all new students who are children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Alumni in the dining room for a casual continental breakfast. This year we welcome 29 new legacy students.
A great crowd of 1,200 gathered on May 10, 2014 to enjoy the Campus Dedication and Celebration. We have "grounds to celebrate!"
About 100 alums and friends joined Andy Abbott for cocktails and hors d'oeuvres at a New York City reception on Thursday, April 10 at the Atlantic Grill - Lincoln Center. See photos here.
A Naples, FL reception was held on Thursday, March 20 at the home of Irl and Sue Engelhardt. Alums and friends of Burroughs heard about the campus improvements from Head of School Andy Abbott, while enjoying great food and a beautiful sunset.
Alumni Skate Break - About 80 Burroughs alumni and family members gathered at Steinberg Skating Rink in Forest Park on Sunday, February 9 to enjoy an afternnon of skating. Everyone enjoyed the beautiful falling snow, cocoa and cookies!
Seattle Reception: On Wednesday, January 15 about 45 alumni and friends gathered at the Edgewater Hotel to catch up and hear about the transformed JBS campus.
The Alumni Ice Hockey Game was held Sunday, December 22, 2013 from 6pm to 7pm at Ice Zone (Mills). Everyone who showed up to play or watch had a fun time!
The Winterlude - A holiday reception for the Burroughs community was held on Thursday, December 19, 6:30-7:30 pm in the new Commons, between the two holiday program performances. More than 400 alums, parents, grandparents, students and faculty gathered to celebrate the season.
The Alumni Office held a planning meeting for classes ending in 4's and 9's on Tuesday, December 10, at 5:30 in the new Commons Conference Room. Please contact Lisa Yost if you couldn't make it but would like to help plan your reunion in 2014.
1980s Decade Party - Battle of the Bands Party was held on Saturday, August 24 in the new Athletic Center and featured the 80s bands Loose Change and Deaf Mefford. More than 140 alums from the classes of 1980 through 1989 re-connected with their JBS classmates and everyone had a great time. Click here for photos.
Entrepreneurship in St. Louis - This networking event, sponsored by the JBS Alumni Association and Arch Grants, was held on Wednesday, June 12 at LAB 1500. More than 70 alumni and parents enjoyed cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, followed by a panel discussion with Burroughs alumni and moderated by Arch Grants. Click here for photos.
Golf Tournament for Alumni & Friends - The 22nd annual golf tournament was held on Friday, May 17 at the Bogey Club. Everyone had a fun time as raindrops kept falling on their heads! Check out the photos.
Farewell to Haertter Hall Reception - The goodbye to Haertter Hall party, held on Saturday, May 11, was attended by around 150 students, alums, parents, past parents and grandparents. The reception was held in The Commons prior to the final performance of the JBS Players' production of The Madwoman of Chaillot. There was a slide show spanning 55 years. Attendees were encouraged to write messages on the walls of the Commons. If you would still like to submit memories of Haertter Hall, please send them to Lisa Yost.
Chicago Area Reception - Andy Abbott greeted more than sixty alumni and friends in the Windy City on Thursday, April 18 at The Gage. He shared a video about the Campaign for Burroughs and talked about the progress on the two new buildings on campus.
San Francisco Area Reception - Alumni and friends joined Andy Abbott on Thursday, April 11 at 25 Lusk, had a great time, and learned about the transformations occurring on the Burroughs campus.
Young Alumni Happy Hour - Young alums from four secondary schools, including Burroughs, enjoyed happy hour on April 10 at the Cheshire Inn in Clayton.
Reception in New York City - The capital campaign's national launch was held on Saturday, February 23, 2013, hosted by alumni co-chair Jon Hamm '89. About 300 people attended the event, held at Danny Meyer's '76 Union Square Events Kitchen! Alums from the classes of 1954 to 2012 were present. Phonathons - More than 50 alums made calls to classmates during February to drum up support for Annual Giving 2013.
1990's Prom - Alumni from the classes of 1990 through 1999 had a blast at "prom" on Saturday, February 2, 2013, if the photos are any indication!

Winterlude - About 170 alums and parents from the classes of 2000 through 2012 gathered in the Howard Stamper Library on campus to enjoy treats and catch up with each other on Wednesday, December 19. The Winterlude was held between the two performances of the Holiday Program. Many alums and their parents attended this year because this was the final Holiday Program held in the "old" Haertter Hall. The new Haertter Hall will be part of the new performing arts center, currently under construction. Check out the latest capital campaign news.
Gingerbread House Decorating - A sold-out crowd of alumni and their kids or nieces/nephews enjoyed decorating gingerbread houses on Saturday, December 1, 2012, in the Dining Room. Many thanks to alumni coordinators Becky Streett Melander '87, Ben Beinfeld '89 and Amy George Rush '92.
2012 Alumni Weekend - Wednesday, October 10- Sunday, October 14.
Hundreds of alums and their families gathered on campus for various group events, and then hosted their individual parties off campus. Quinta Dunn Scott '59 was the featured artist in the Kuehner Gallery and Jason Torrey '00 and his band entertained us with wonderful music during the alumni picnic on Saturday. 1970's Decade Cocktail Party - That 70s Party - All members of the classes of 1970 through 1979 were invited to a cocktail party at the Bogey Club on Friday, October 5.
Members of the Burroughs community came out to cheer on the Bombers play volleyball, soccer, tennis, field hockey, cross country and football over Blue & Gold weekend. Many alums gathered under the Spirit Tent at "The Big Game" to see the Varsity Football team defeat MICDS 55-7!
Alumni, students, parents and faculty from JBS and MICDS - more than 200 total - participated in the annual Fun Run on Saturday, September 22, 2012. Runners and walkers went from JBS to MICDS early in the morning to kick off a fun day of athletic activities.
