More than 50 percent of the Burroughs campus is dedicated to physical education and athletics.
The swimming pool has six lanes at 25 meters for competition with a modern electric timing system and scoreboard. The scoreboard also is used for the water polo team. A one meter diving board over a pool that meets national specifications for safety is also available. Record Boards illustrate swimming record for the boys and the girls. A small balcony serves as an observers platform for fans. An outdoor pool is available for physical education and summer activities.
The Memorial Gym with bleachers seating 500 serves as the performance gym for basketball and volleyball games at all levels as well as for some wrestling contests. The lobby area houses record boards for ABC competition as well as trophy cases for the teams that use the facility.
The air conditioned multi- purpose facility is used extensively for wrestling in addition to meeting the needs of various groups such as the cheerleaders, dance squad, fitness and yoga.
With one wall of mirrors, the dance studio is used for dance activities, fitness, yoga and cheering squads.
Squash and Racquetball Courts
Two regulation squash courts and one regulation doubles squash court meet the needs of indoor racquet sports.
A small cardio room contains modern Stairmasters, treadmills, elliptical runners and an assortment of exercise bikes for fitness and for rehab work.
A modern weight room which has an assortment of free weights, bar bells, and modern resistant exercise machines serves the students, coaches and the community.
Olin Field House
The field house has three regulation basketball courts, encircled by a 160 meter running track. Netting allows the facility to be subdivided and thereby be used for multiple activities at the same time. In addition the netting can be moved to provide a large practice area that can be used by soccer, field hockey and football in inclement weather. A modern batting cage serves baseball players who can use the netting for indoor hitting drills and fielding practice. On special occasions such as the annual dinner and graduation, the field house can be transformed into a banquet area or a lecture hall. Displayed on the wall of the field house are the records established in boys and girls track.
Lee Tennis Complex
Ten regulation tennis courts, fully resurfaced in summer 2010, are available for the students. Burroughs frequently hosts MSHSAA tennis events for both the boys and the girls. The courts are available for school use and summer programs at other times.
Ray Beckman Soccer Field
A modern, regulation soccer field with stands was completed in summer 2010 and has been dedicated to Ray Beckman, a legendary soccer coach at Burroughs.
Leland Field, Keefer Track
A modern track dedicated to Skippy Keefer, a long time coach and athletic director, encircles a turf field that is used by football, soccer and lacrosse as well as physical education classes. The field originally dedicated to Sam Leland, the first Burroughs athletic director, and the track were updated in 2004 with funds provided by the Steve Trulaske '75 family and allow all contests to be played in all kinds of weather. Fans may view contests from the Albrecht Stands named in recognition of Barry ’96, Craig ’98 and Ted Albrecht ’01. A modern press box is named for Jim Lemen, a long time coach and athletic director at Burroughs.
Named for Tom McConnell, legendary football and baseball coach and athletic director, the baseball field has a wonderful surface that is playable more quickly than almost any field in the area. Modern dugouts and concrete viewing stands provided by the Sisler family complete the venue.
Field Hockey Field
Provided by an anonymous donor, a modern turf field with concrete viewing stands is the home for our field hockey team. Like Leland Field, it is playable in all types of weather. It is also used as a practice field for lacrosse and physical education classes.
Two small fields adjacent to the Ray Beckman Field (one south, one east) provide additional space that teams may use for practice or for physical education.
