About the Varsity Coaches
Jason Ward joined the Bombers volleyball program as Head Coach in 2015. He and his family moved to St. Louis from Pacific Palisades, California where he coached boys and girls club, middle school, and high school volleyball teams, winning several conference championships. Jason played collegiate club volleyball at Kettering University in Flint, Michigan and at the University of Kansas. After college, Jason played competitive beach volleyball around the country for several years and is still an avid volleyball player. When not coachin, playing, or promoting volleyball, Jason works for a technology company in St. Louis and is a partner in a Santa Monica based digital company.
Wayne Scott joined the Burroughs staff in 2006. He is an elementary school physical education teacher and coaches track and volleyball. Previously, Wayne worked as a graduate assistant (volleyball and track and field) at Northwest Missouri State University. He holds a bachelor's degree in Recreation and Administration from Oral Roberts University and a Masters in health and physical education from Northwest Missouri State University. Wayne lettered all three years as a decathlete (ranked thired in home country of Jamaica in 2004). He also represented the Jamaican junior and senior national indoor volleyball teams from 1999-2001 and was a member of the Jamaica Beach volleyball team that fell one round short of qualifications for the 2012 Olympics. He still travels and plays professional beach tournaments, but has focused more on spending time with his family and coaching juniors in beach and club volleyball.
Girls JV Volleyball
About the JV Coaches
Mark Johnson joined the volleyball program as the Girls JV Head Coach in 2014. Prior to coming to Burroughs, Mark coached three years at St. Dominic and two years at MICDS, both on the freshman level. He also was named te head coach for St. Dominic's very first boys volleyball team. In addition, Mark has ran his own junior girls volleyball club called Domination, coaching the 18s team for the club. Mark holds two bachelor degrees (Music Education and Computer Science) from Western Illinois University, and currently works as a system administrator in the STL area
Girls "C" Volleyball
About the C Coach
Oana Coman moved to St. Louis from Columbia, Maryland in 2012 to pursue a PhD in earth and planetary science at Washington University. In Maryland, Oana played club volleyball for the University of Maryland-Baltimore County and coaches for Columbia Volleyball Club. She is currently coaching the 12 Pink and 13 Blue teams at St. Louis Vision Volleyball Club, where she has a been a coach since her move to St. Louis. In addition to coaching club volleyball, she is an assistant at Fontbonne University, is involved with the USA Volleyball High Performance program, and continues to play in adult volleyball leagues and tournaments. Oana is also a candidate for the USA Volleyball CAP Level III certification and is conducting research focused on designing statistically-sound practices and systems for youth volleyball. She holds bachelor's degrees in mathematics and visual/performing arts from UMBC and a masters in earth and planetary science from Wash U.
