About the Varsity Coaches
John Merritt joined the Burroughs staff in the fall of 2011. He currently teaches history in addition to coaching Varsity Football, Varsity Girls Basketball and Varsity Track and Field. Before joining the JBS staff John was the Dean of Students and Head Track and Field coach at Crossroads College Preparatory School. John earned his bachelors degree in History and Education from Washington University in 1995.
Barry Gale (JBS '85) joined the Burroughs coaching staff in 2003 as the girls’ JV basketball coach and assistant soccer coach. Gale was the head soccer coach at Warrenton High School for the boys’ and girls’ programs from 1996-1998, the head JV soccer coach at St. Louis University High School from 2000-2003 and the head varsity coach for the girls’ soccer program at St. Elizabeth Academy in St. Louis. Gale has the most wins by any coach in St. Elizabeth Academy’s history. He holds a bachelor's degree from a graduate of Miami University (Ohio) and earned a master’s degree fromTruman State University.

About the JV Coaches
Jeanne Gillanders joined the English Department in 2011. Prior to coming to Burroughs, she taught at Parkway North and DeSmet. Gillanders holds a bachelor's degree in writing and English literature from Saint Mary's College and is completing her master's degree in liberal arts at Washington University.
Girls "C" Basketball
About the "C" Coaches
Meghan DiGiulio joined the Burroughs faculty in the 2012-13 school year. In addition to teaching 7th and 8th grade physical education, she is head coach of girls' varsity lacrosse and C basketball and assistant coach of junior varsity field hockey. DiGiulio comes most recently from MICDS, where she was a physical education teacher, coach and academic advisor. She holds a bachelor's degree in sociology and anthropology from Colgate University.
