About the Varsity Coaches
Alan Trzecki is a veteran coach and educator with twenty plus years of experience. He joined the Burroughs coaching staff as an assistant in 2006 and two years later was named Head Coach of Boy’s and Girl’s Soccer. In his first season at the helm, the boy’s team captured the programs first State Championship and Trzecki earned Coach of the Year honors. Mr. Trzecki also serves as the 7th and 8th grade PE Coordinator, student advisor, and member of the athletic administrative team. Before coming to Burroughs, Coach Trzecki worked for seventeen years a physical educator and coach at Villa Duchesne-Oak Hill School. He earned a BS in Education from the University of Missouri-St. Louis where he competed for the Rivermen in the 1987 NCAA Final Four Men’s Soccer Championships. Coach Trzecki holds coaching licenses from both the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and the United States Soccer Federation.
Davey Desloge (JBS '94) joined the Burroughs faculty in 2007 and is the sports information director, baseball and soccer coach, a 7th and 8th grade physical education teacher and a faculty sponsor of the freshman class. Prior to coming to Burroughs, Desloge was a third grade teacher at Forsyth School in St. Louis and a fourth grade teacher at New Canaan Country School in Connecticut. He played baseball at JBS under former Athletic Director Jim Lemen and current varsity coach Andy Katzman and played soccer under current JBS faculty member Kevin McKone. Desloge is thrilled to be back coaching on the same fields where his playing career began.
Boys JV Soccer
About the JV Coaches
Barry Gale (JBS ’85) joined the Burroughs coaching staff in 2003 as the JV girls’ basketball coach as well as an assistant soccer coach. Prior to returning to Burroughs, Coach Gale was the head soccer coach at Warrenton High School for both the boys’ and girls’ programs from 1996-1998, the head JV soccer coach at SLUH from 2000-2003, and the head Varsity coach for the girls’ soccer program at St. Elizabeth Academy in St. Louis. Coach Gale has the most wins by any coach in St. Elizabeth Academy’s history. Coach Gale is a graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and earned his Master’s degree at Truman State University.
Boys "C" Soccer
About the "C" Coach
Ben Hjelle joined the Burroughs PE/Athletics faculty in 2014. He is the head coach for boys lacrosse and boys C team soccer and is assistant coach for boys C basketball. Hjelle also teaches 7/8 PE and advises the THIMUN program. He previously taught history and coached lacrosse at Edgewater HS (Florida), and has also coached at Clayton HS and the York School (California). Hjelle has a bachelor's degree in history and political science from the University of Wisconsin and a master's in international policy from the Middlebury Institute. He runs a consulting firm in the life sciences industry.
