Habitat	Swamps, shorelines, meadows.
Flower	Irregular with a hood and 3 lobed lower petals, rose-purple, 1/2 inch wide, arranged in whorls that arise from the axils of leaves.
Leaves	Opposite, simple, toothed, lance-shaped or oblong. Leaf stalk present but inconspicuous. Stem cross section square.
