Summer perennial.

 Habitat
Roadsides and open fields.

 Flower
Irregular, pink to greenish purple, fragrant, borne in terminal clusters and along the stem from leaf axils. Clusters are up to 2" wide and individual flowers are 1/4" wide. Flowers contain 5 petals.

 Leaves
Simple, opposite, entire, with short stalks. Leaf length 3" to 6". Shape oval. Stems and leaves secrete a milky juice when broken.
