Flowers late spring through summer (May-June-July).

 Habitat
Open fields and roadsides.

 Flower
Regular, purple flowers with 4 petals, a flower tube conceals the stamens and pistil. Stalked flowers form elongated terminal clusters (raceme).

 Leaves
Leaves simple, toothed and arranged alternately on the stem. Plant sometimes reaches a height of 2 to 3 feet.
