Summer perennial.

 Habitat
Roadsides, prairies, grows well where conditions are dry and sunny.

 Flower
Small, less than 1/4" long, individual flowers are lavender with protruding yellow stamens and a single petal. Flower clusters form tapering spikes.

 Leaves
Pinnately compound, alternate, with 25 or more leaflets. Fine hairs cover the leaf giving it a gray appearance.
