Support Burroughs

Giving is a tradition at Burroughs. Since its founding in 1923, John Burroughs School has relied on the support of the families who make up the Burroughs community. In addition to the countless volunteer hours given to the Parents Council, the Board of Trustees, the Alumni Board, the reunion committees and the school’s many special events, Burroughs families have given strong financial support each year as well.

Tuition pays approximately 73% of the costs of running the school each year—expenses which range from faculty salaries to athletic fields to electric bills.

The Annual Giving program provides more than $1.725 million toward these costs, and interest from our endowment provides an additional $1.7 million.

Without these gifts, Burroughs would not have achieved—and could not continue to provide—the excellence in education for which we are known.

Our primary means of garnering support to pay the school's operating expenses is our Annual Giving program.

Gifts to our endowment and capital programs support the school in perpetuity, helping Burroughs build permanent funds and facilities to sustain the school in the years to come. Whether through your will, in a trust or through an income-producing agreement, both the donor and Burroughs can benefit from thoughtful gift planning.
