At the Annual Dinner and Auction at 6 pm, Saturday, May 13, members of the JBS Association will elect trustees for the 2017-18 school year. (Terms are for three years.) The slate includes:
Bill Bolster (second term): Attorney, Lewis Rice LLC — A member of the Board since 2014, Bill currently serves on the Development and Finance committees. Bill has also served the school as a Parent Annual Giving volunteer. In the larger community, Bill currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the St. Louis Chapter of Autism Speaks and on the Board of the Productive Living Board. Bill and his wife, Tricia, have three children — Will, Drew ’16 and Patrick ’18.
Jim Edwards ’90 (first term): President and CEO, Opti-Port, LLC — Jim has served for many years as an Alumni Annual Giving volunteer. He has also served as an alumni reunion volunteer and will be a parent grade chair next year. In the larger community, Jim coaches youth baseball, soccer and basketball. He formerly served as a board member of Entrepreneurs Organization (St. Louis Chapter) and as a member of the Magic House Friends Committee. Jim and his wife, Kelly, are the parents of Abby ’22, Hayley and Jimmy.
Gonzalo Fernandez (first term): Attorney, Devereaux, Stokes, Fernandez & Leonard, P.C. — Gonzalo serves on the Committee for Racial Equality and Fairness in Law, an appointee of the Supreme Court of Missouri. He is a member of Federal Memorial Trust (Federal District Court, Eastern District, Missouri) and a frequent guest expert on Spanish-language radio. Gonzalo formerly served as president of the Hispanic National Bar Association's Midwest chapter, co-chair of St. Louis Committee on Minorities in the Law and as a board member for Accion Social Comunitaria, St. Louis Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and Downtown St. Louis YMCA. Gonzalo and his wife, Anne, have three children — Lola ’20, Ella and Cece ’23.
Asim Raza ’86 (first term): Attorney/Chief Legal Officer, Terminal Railroad Association — Asim has served on the JBS Community & Equity Partnership Steering Committee since 2015. He is also a member of the Board of Directors for the St. Louis Civic Pride Foundation and has served in that capacity since 2013. He formerly served on the Board of Directors for the South Asian Bar Association of St. Louis. Asim and his wife, Saadia, are the parents of Ziyaad ’21, Adnaan ’18 and Riyaz.
Nancy Reynolds (first term): Associate Professor of History, Washington University in St. Louis — Nancy has served Burroughs as a tenth grade co-chair, Bookstore volunteer and Potpourri volunteer. As a member of the Forsyth School Board from 2008 to 2014, she served on the Multicultural (chair), Executive, Personnel and Board Chair committees. She is the current president of Harvard Club of Saint Louis and former co-chair of the organization’s Schools and Scholarships Committee. Nancy and her husband, Dwyer Brown, are the parents of Anson ’18 and Graham Brown ’21.
Linda Roby (first term): Professor, Paul Simon Public Policy Institute, Southern Illinois University - Carbondale; Founder and Principal of GII of Illinois, Inc; and Partner in Knollwood Management Services — At Burroughs, Linda is a Potpourri and Bookstore volunteer. She is a former Wilson School trustee and former chair of the school’s Building and Grounds Committee. Linda serves on Cultural Leadership Board, as a board member for the statewide Assisted Living Coalition, and as a member of the Illinois Equal Justice Foundation. She also is an active member of Links, Inc. and the St. Louis chapter of Jack & Jill of America. Linda and her husband, Ronald, are the parents of George ’20 and Gared ’22.
Bob Smith (second term): Vice President, Strategic Business Development, Ascension Health — A member of the Board since 2014, Bob currently serves on the Diversity and Education; Tuition Aid; and Finance committees. He also has volunteered with the Parent Annual Giving campaign. In the larger community, Bob serves on the boards of St. Louis Zoo Association and Missouri Botanical Garden and as a member of Washington University’s National Council for Entrepreneurship. He previously served on the board of FOCUS St. Louis and as a member of the FOCUS/Leadership St. Louis class of 2004/2005. Bob and his wife, Ginger, have two children, R.B. ’16 and Alex ’18.
Mark Schnuck ’74 (second term, alumni representative): Chairman and CEO, The DESCO Group — Mark currently serves on the Community School Board and is the incoming chairman. He is a former chair and current member of the St. Louis Zoo Commission and a past chair of the St. Louis Zoo Foundation Board of Trustees. He is a past chairman and current member of the Salvation Army Board and a past chairman of Fair St. Louis Foundation. Mark and his wife, Stephanie, are the parents of Lily, Otto and Ries, who attend Community School. Mark has three children — Christopher, William and Lucy — from a previous marriage.
Kelly Cornwell Steinkamp ’87 (first term): Community Volunteer — Kelly and her husband, Greg, chair the Parent Annual Giving campaign at Burroughs, and before that she was a Parent Annual Giving captain/volunteer. Kelly has also served Burroughs as co-chair of the Summer Opportunities Fair, co-chair of the New Family Mentor Program, co-chair of Unique Boutique Exhibitors, co-chair of Potpourri Hospitality and as a Bookstore volunteer. She is a board member of Aim High St. Louis, a Make-A-Wish Missouri wish granter, and a former member of the Community School Alumni Board. The Steinkamps have two children, Jakes ’18 and Lindsey ’20.
Shilpa Thornton (second term): Ophthalmologist, Eye Associates — A member of the Board since 2014, Shilpa currently serves on the Diversity and Education and Tuition Aid committees. She also has served the school as a Summer Opportunities Fair co-chair, 10th grade chair, co-chair of the Unique Boutique Exhibitors committee and volunteer for both the Parent Annual Giving Campaign and the Capital Campaign. She and her husband, Chris, are the parents of Ryan ’15, Kyle ’18 and Gaby ’20.
