I am happy to announce that after a six-month search, we have hired a new director of development, Lane O'Shea, who will begin work on April 4.
Lane currently serves as a senior regional director of alumni and development programs at Washington University, bringing more than a decade of experience working in higher education development. Her career and skills are rich and diverse, having started in college admissions in 1981; working for 14 years with non-profit, government and corporate clients on marketing and communications; and, in 2000, founding an economic development consulting firm. Lane holds a bachelor’s degree in communications and a master’s in management.
Over the years, our development office has been incredibly successful. We are fortunate to have one of the most enviable Annual Giving programs in the country and are on the heels of a remarkable capital campaign, the results of which we enjoy everyday.
But when we began the search, it was clear to me from conversations with parents and alums that while fundraising experience would be important — and Lane certainly has it — what would be most vital for us would be finding someone who will understand Burroughs, love our students and our culture, and recognize that relationships are at the core of everything we do.
The first and foremost of these is the student-teacher relationship. But not far behind is the parent-school relationship. It is critically important to me that each of you feel a part of this community, able to support your child’s experience whenever and however you can. In Lane, we have someone who will not only raise funds to support our students but also raise the connection between school and home, and school and alumni throughout the country.
As we move into the spring, I look forward to introducing Lane to all of you and to see her working with our incredible volunteers and our devoted staff. Please join me in welcoming her!
