Congratulations to the 23 seniors in the Class of 2020 who have been named National Merit Semifinalists: Sriya Bandi, Angelo Benoit, Rafi Brent, Jordan Burger, Adina Cazacu-De Luca, Tina Chen, Dylan Fox, Austin Isaak, Diya Krishnan, Keerthana Madireddi, Hugh McKelvy, Gabi Moore, Lily Orchard, Claire Pan, Cristian Perez, Emma Petite, Glenn Randall, Caroline Strahorn, Becky Tan, Hallie Williams, Ann Zhang, Carrie Zhang and Penny Zheng.
Their selection is based on the high scores they achieved on the preliminary PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test that they took last fall. This year’s juniors will take their qualifying test on Wednesday, October 16; sophomores will take a practice test the same day.
In addition, seven students received commendations (Benjamin Kazdan, Isabella Koster, Adam Krekeler, Sami Remis, John Rich, Gaby Thornton and John Woodruff), and seven students received National Hispanic Recognition (Adina Cazacu-DeLuca, Lola Fernandez, Austin Isaak, Isabella Koster, Cristian Perez, Glenn Randall and Gaby Thornton).
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation identified approximately 16,000 top scorers from 1.5 million juniors at about 21,000 high schools who took the PSAT/NMSQT in the fall of 2018. The 23 Burroughs students who were selected as semifinalists will now continue in the National Merit Scholarship competition and advance to finalist standing by meeting a number of additional requirements; those results will be announced in February.
